Weddings are usually important events in the lives of
people, indeed. An entire segment of our economy depends on people spending
huge amounts of money making even more perfect this happiest day of their lives.
People also spend money for pictures at weddings. These same people want to remember people at weddings. Weddings bring
friends and family together to have a good time. Even if a marriage dissolves
in acrimony worthy of a Hollywood movie, there will be
some pictures worth saving. Having good pictures is important at a wedding.
I say this not out of avarice, but out of experience.
Believe it not, me, a professional picture taker was once young and broke and
relied on friends to photograph a wedding in which I was a significant
participant. I should have skimped on the Slim Jim Casserole and potato chips
and hired a picture taker. Years after the heartburn of the Slim Jims wears off,
the pictures remain. That's why you want good pictures.
It is possible to spend a LOT of money on wedding pictures.
You can hire a super pro for $20,000 and still have to spend more for a video of the wedding. For that kind of money, you get portraits, lots of
portraits, and a very expensive coffee table book of your wedding. And you should get pictures worthy of a wedding magazine. I think
that is all neat.
Down at the lower end of the wedding picturing profession
are people like me. I charge about $2,500 to do a wedding. And what do you get
for that much money? First, you get two skilled picture takers. This
significantly reduces the odds that major moments will go un-pictured. You
will also get about 500 pictures assuming there is that much to picture. You will get
pictures of the wedding and the entire reception.
